Chronic Pain and Muscle Fatigue

In November 2000, I developed constant lower back pain and had trouble standing straight after getting up out of a chair. My legs didn’t work well either. I was walking every day and exercising with an aerobics class, but by February, the pain in my upper thigh muscles was so bad I had to stop. I was greatly fatigued. I had difficulty doing normal household chores and could no longer grocery shop. I could not get out of a chair without the aid of my arms to push myself up, and it was impossible to climb stairs without using my arms. I had an MRI, a bone scan, EMG and many blood tests several times over. All were negative. The neurologist who tested me found that I had more weakness in my upper left thigh muscle than my right, but didn’t know how to help me. She told me to come back in two months to see how I was doing. Meanwhile, my muscles kept getting weaker and I was in more and more pain.

I searched the Internet for "muscle weakness" and "muscle fatigue" trying to find an answer. My family doctor wanted to send me to Oklahoma City to see a muscle disease specialist. A friend recommended Dr. Robert Zembroski (she had been after me to see him for months). I felt that since I had exhausted all "normal" medical routes, I had nothing to lose. By now, I was also getting shooting pains in my legs and occasionally in my arms. At night the pain was so intense it woke me up.

After a complete neurological examination, Dr. Z told me the left side of my brain was fatigued; he actually used the word "depressed." That came as no surprise as I had been on anti-depressants for several years. After receiving my first neurological chiropractic stimulations, I was standing straighter, my back hurt less, and I had some strength in my legs. In three weeks time, my thigh muscles had strengthened so I was able to get up off a chair without using my arms. I’ve since been walking my two Labrador retrievers for months now and I’ve gone back to aerobic classes. I had never realized that my poor balance, stumbling when I walked, and "dirty" contact lenses where all related to my problem. It was something I had had for years and never realized it. My only regret is that I did not see Dr. Z sooner as it would have saved me months of pain and suffering and my recuperation time would have been much shorter. For me, Dr. Z performed nothing short of a miracle.
